When we launched Hypertranslate, it ran on one engine: Google Translate, chained through random languages. Today we’re adding a second way to play — Hypertranslate AI — plus a new language settings page that puts you in charge of which languages participate in the relay, on both versions.

What is Hypertranslate AI?

Hypertranslate AI is the same translation telephone you know, but every hop is re-expressed by a large language model instead of matched against dictionary entries.

That difference matters. A dictionary-based translator looks up what you probably meant and picks the closest fixed equivalent. A language model reads the whole sentence and rewrites it — so idioms, tone, and cultural references hold on a little longer at first, then break in gloriously unexpected ways once the drift compounds. No phrase book means no safety net, and no safety net is exactly where the fun lives.

Two things make it genuinely different to use:

  • It streams live. The whole run travels over one WebSocket connection, and each round streams back token by token. You don’t wait for a final answer — you watch the meaning drift in real time, hop by hop, on the translation route.
  • It’s resumable. If a hop fails or the connection drops, nothing is lost. Press Continue and only the remaining rounds re-run — finished stops stay exactly as they were. You can even switch AI models mid-run and resume from where things stopped.

Quick start

  1. Open Hypertranslate AI and type a sentence — a joke, a proverb, your company slogan.
  2. Pick a source language, a target language, and a number of rounds. Hypertranslate AI fills everything in between with random stops; more rounds mean wilder drift.
  3. Hit “Translate with AI” and watch the route stream in, one stop at a time, until your text lands back in your target language — usually as something nobody saw coming.

Choosing your model

Above the form there’s a model picker with four models hosted via Pollinations.AI:

  • GPT-5.6 Luna (the default)
  • GPT-5.4 Nano
  • Meta Llama 3.3 70B
  • DeepSeek V4 Flash

Each model re-expresses text a little differently, so the same sentence through the same languages can die in completely different ways depending on who’s holding the phone. Your choice is remembered in your browser, and switching models mid-run is safe — press Continue and the remaining hops re-run on the new model.

New: language settings

The second launch today is the language settings page. Until now, the target language picker and the random relay drew from every language the engine supports. Now you decide:

  • Toggle languages on or off. Turn a language off and it disappears from the target language picker and stops appearing as a random stop in the relay.
  • Search and filter. A search box and an “only show enabled” filter make it easy to manage the list when you’ve narrowed it down.
  • Source language is unaffected. You can still translate from any language, including ones you’ve turned off — the setting only controls which languages can be picked as targets and drawn as random hops.
  • At least one language stays on. The page won’t let you disable everything.
  • Saved per browser. Your choices live in this browser’s local storage — no account, and nothing leaves your device.

One setting, two engines: the languages you enable apply to both the classic Google version on the homepage and Hypertranslate AI. If you only ever want Asian languages in your chains, or want to keep the game inside the Romance language family, set it once and both tools obey.

Sharing and history

Both launch features plug into the sharing setup you already know:

  • Share links — generate a link that encodes the exact text, languages, rounds, and route. Anyone who opens it replays the same run, stop by stop. One-tap sharing to X, WhatsApp, and Telegram is built in.
  • Local history — recent runs are saved in your browser with the full route and every hop’s text, so you can retrace — and copy — exactly how your sentence fell apart.
  • Copy-ready output — one click copies any stop or the final result for pasting into a group chat.

A note on privacy

With Hypertranslate AI, your text is sent to the AI provider to produce each translation. Just like the classic version, your text is only stored if you create a share link — otherwise recent runs live in your browser’s local history and nowhere else. See our Privacy Policy for the details.

Tips for the wildest AI results

  • Pick distant language pairs. English ↔ Japanese, Arabic, or Finnish drifts far harder than English ↔ German.
  • Crank the rounds. Two or three hops drift gently; ten or more often come back completely unrecognizable.
  • Feed it idioms and puns. Because the model leans on context, culturally specific phrases break in the most entertaining ways.
  • Watch the route, not just the result. Each stop shows exactly where the meaning started to slip.
  • Re-run the same text with a different model. Same sentence, different phone, different disaster.

Try it now

Head to Hypertranslate AI, tune your languages on the settings page, and see what twenty rounds of model-driven telephone does to your favorite quote. And when it comes back as a prophecy about crows — you know where the share button is.
